A Nevada lawmaker wants to make it harder for the public to determine who is packing heat.
Assemblyman Don Gustavson, R Sparks, asked the Legislative Counsel Bureau to draft a bill for the 2011 legislative session that would make personal information related to concealed carry permits confidential.

Beginning August 5 and running through the course of the fair on August 15, your NRA-ILA staff and volunteers will be manning booth #1306 in the Expo Center building. Staff will be providing free NRA-ILA materials, offering memberships, answering questions and signing up volunteers to assist with the upcoming elections. We will also have information available on current federal issues and election activity as well as state issues and legislative session summaries.

NRA steps up anti-Kagan campaign

The National Rifle Association is stepping up it's campaign to shoot down the Supreme Court nomination of Elena Kagan. In a call to supporters to urge senators to vote no, the NRA compares Kagan to President Obama's last court pick, Sonia Sotomayor, who seemed to back the Second Amendment in confirmation hearings but who later voted against it in a test case.

New Hampshire: Nottingham considers gun ban policy

Town officials in Nottingham reviewed a gun policy Monday night that would allow town employees to bring guns to work.
In June, the board of selectmen unanimously voted to undo a 10 year old policy that prevented town employees, except police officers, from having a gun inside town offices.

England: Gun review in wake of tragedy

Prime Minister David Cameron had previously warned against a “knee-jerk reaction” and said Britain’s gun control legislation was among the tightest in the world.

Arizona: New gun law quietly takes effect

A new law is on the books in Arizona.
Since Thursday, anyone 21 years or older who is legally qualified to own a firearm may carry one without a Concealed to Carry permit.

Louisiana: Right-to-Carry in church law draws interest

Capt. Kenny Sanders' phone hasn't stopped ringing since Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal signed the "gun in church" bill into law July 6.
House Bill 1272, sponsored by Rep. Henry Burns, allows churches or other religious institutions to authorize people with concealed weapons permits and who have passed the required training to bring weapons into houses of worship as part of a security force.

Utah: Number of licensed concealed carry instructors increasing

The number of people licensed to teach Utah's concealed weapons courses is growing.
As of July, Utah had certified more than 1,100 instructors for its concealed carry program. That's up from 926 at the end of last year and 825 two years ago.

Benigno Aquino, who took office on June 30, is an avid sports shooter and clips on YouTube show him using a semi automatic pistol with great skill at a target shooting competition.

In an important Second Amendment decision that charts a course for evaluating the validity of gun laws now that the U.S. Supreme Court has declared the right to be an individual one, the 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals has refused to strike down a federal law that bans possession of guns with obliterated serial numbers.

Concealed weapons permits, applications skyrocketing

Ten years ago, the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services issued 258 concealed weapon licenses in Alachua County, according to records. Between July 1, 2009 and June 30, 2010, the department issued 1,912 licenses. Marion County saw a similar trend.

Pennsylvania: Chester council OKs resolution on guns

In defiance of state law, Chester city council approved a resolution Wednesday calling for the state Legislature to pass a law requiring lost or stolen handguns to be reported missing to police within a reasonable amount of time after the discovery of their disappearance. Council voted, 4-0, in favor of the resolution. Councilperson Marrea Walker-Smith was absent.
